Design knowledge
Our designs and concepts are influenced by a range of different elements. A good understanding of the market, and our technical and financial knowledge allow us to manage a project’s feasibility and steer it towards a successful realization. In addition to design skills, our team’s competence includes: BIM, 3D modelling and rendering; knowledge of BREEAM, WELL and LEED standards; new building techniques, robust cost calculation, and secure process management. Incorporating this experience into our designs lets us push the boundaries of the creative process in our development of innovative and practical concepts.
Process knowledge
Multiple stakeholders and high ambitions; cooperation with municipal representatives, advisors, contractors, and sometimes collaboration with other international architects, are trademarks of our projects. This requires that our knowledge base include a good understanding of, and experience in, managing large and complex processes. Additionally, we use a co-creative working methodology that fosters simultaneous multidisciplinary engagement in program, typology and context, and also increases flexibility within the design process.
Research and reliability
Continued research is a vital factor maintaining our knowledge base. At pivotal stages of the project we form workshops with partners, experts and users to discuss and evaluate the results of our research and concepts. This teaches us a lot, but also helps to create a framework for innovative and smart design solutions. We believe sharing knowledge is key to the creation of good architecture.
Responsible innovation
We aim to create architecture that lasts for many decades. We achieve this by translating our market knowledge into smart designs that take care of the user’s needs in the present, as well as in the future. Our design approach creates buildings that are flexible in use and space. Through the use of durable materials, that age well, in combination with fine but robust detailing, we take responsibility for our buildings beyond the point of realization. This gives our architecture a durable value along with acceptable maintenance costs.
Transformation
Architecture, while subject to the effects of time, does transcend societal fads, and economic and cultural changes. Cities, neighbourhoods, and buildings all need to adapt. This reality calls for a different approach by architects and owners. Flexibility and transformation determine place making. Rather than limit architecture to fit current demands, we believe in new programmatic possibilities that provide localities and buildings an opportunity for second lives — in transformed or new roles.
Accreditation
As a founding partner of the Dutch Green Building Council we promote a responsible design method that leads to Breeam, Leed and Well labels. This approach, which considers a wide range of environmental issues, forms the basis for an accredited value to real estate. The integrated concepts generated through this multi-disciplinary collaboration add stakeholder value, induce social cohesion, and provide a platform for further research and discussion.
