The first WELL certified™ sustainable hotel in the world will be built in Leidsche Rijn Center
Leidsche Rijn Center is the new city center of Utrecht. In 2025, more than 100,000 people are going to live there and an additional 40,000 people will work in this area. Aloft Utrecht is a 224-room hotel. It will rise in the heart of this new center, right next to the train station and will be the first WELL Certified™ hotel in the world. WELL is a certification that focuses on both sustainability, health and well-being. In addition, the building will receive a LEED certificate. As a result Utrecht will add an extremely sustainable hotel to the city.
The plot has a triangular shape and therefore has a unique location in the corner of the new Brussels square. We used the shape of the plot to make a sharp and all-round building. A carefully balanced combination of vertical ribs and horizontal bands reinforce the verticality of the building. Communicating a timeless architecture.
The relationship between in- and exterior is accentuated by continuing the outside steps inside the building. The lobby, reception and fitness room can all be found on the ground floor. The first floor houses commercial space, a meeting area and a restaurant facility with a terrace on the Parijsboulevard. The 224 hotel rooms are all located on the upper floors.
The construction will start in the summer of this year, therefore Aloft Utrecht will open its doors in 2020.
BEING Development is developing hotel Aloft Utrecht by Marriott together with Lakenvelder Investment Group. The hotel has a long-term lease with Odyssey Hotel Group, an internationally active hotel management company, that will operate Aloft Utrecht.
